It's not a mystery anymore

This past week I participated in Lola...Again's Mystery Purse Sew-Along. There were 6 days of sewing and we didn't know what the end product would look like. Well, here's what mine looks like:

The pink panel on the front is a pocket. The back is the pink and the inside lining is the orange. The flap has a magnetic snap. There are 2 pockets inside made with the pink fabric. The bag is really big. It should have been called the "Mystery Tote Bag Sew-Along". I'll probably use it for a church bag and if we can ever have another kid then I can use it as a diaper bag. The Sew-Along was a lot of fun and I'm excited to have a new fun bag.

Kaylin's first haircut

We've needed to get Kaylin's hair cut for awhile now. It was stringy and nasty (don't tell her I said that ;-)). We were in Bellingham this past weekend and my mom's friend cut Kaylin's hair. Kaylin didn't want to sit in the chair, but she was okay with sitting on Nana's lap (my mom). She did great! She sat mostly still the whole time, it was amazing. And now while her hair is super short, it looks healthy and so much better!

She even got her hair blow dried.

Presents for Laura and Max

My super-fabulous friend Laura is having another baby boy!!! She is due in about 3 weeks, but we're really hoping that he comes this week. Laura especially hopes that he comes this week :-). I had to figure out what she would need for her 2nd boy since she already has so much from before. I decided to make her a diaper changing station for her to keep downstairs, plus a few extras. In the basket is a changing pad, 2 burp cloths, a receiving blanket, and some pee pee tee pees (yes, I really did make pee pee tee pees and she is really going to use them, I promise!).

Here is the vinyl side of the changing pad. The other side is the fuzzy yellow that you see in the above picture.

Seat back organizer for the car

I decided to make a seat back car organizer for our upcoming roadtrip. I bought a pattern (at JoAnn's $1 pattern sale) that had multiple different options. The problem I was having was there were too many useless to me pockets (Kaylin doesn't have an iPod, or earbuds, or a CD player, or a DVD player, and not much to fit in those pockets), the pattern needed a lot of materials that I didn't already own (lots of fabric, interfacing, webbing, parachute clip, binding), and it would take a lot of time.

So I scoured the internet and found an easy tutorial instead. I only had to cut three pieces of fabric and the sewing was easy. To attach this to the back of the car seat it just needed two button holes at the top and a piece of elastic at the bottom. I had this fabric in my stash and it was perfect because it was a heavier weight fabric. I used this fabric three years ago to make a purse and the rest of the fabric has been sitting in a drawer. No longer! Here is my finished organizer:

It's hard to see the pockets in the above picture, so I put some of Kaylin's travel items in it.

And here it is in the car.

Hopefully this makes the trip more organized!

Craft night-growth charts

My "Mommies' Night Out" group decided to have a craft night. For some reason the other girls decided I should be in charge. I'm not sure what they were thinking. We ended up making growth charts for our kiddos. Our group normally meets once a month. 5 of us met at my house last week but only got halfway through the project. We got the boards painted, but that's it. 3 of us met on Monday night to finish up. Here are the finished boards:

Mine is the lame-o one on the left. Eric and I decided that we liked the name on the chart. So I placed my THIRD vinyl order (don't ask) and picked up my name tonight. Here is my finished chart:

The plan is to modge podge a 1" square picture onto the board every year at the kid's current height. I'll post another picture when I get the pictures on and the board hung up.
