Let the baby proofing begin

Lauren started rolling over from her front to her back a month and a half ago. A week later she started rolling back to front, and seemingly forgot how to roll the other way. For the past few weeks, she's been spending most of her floor time on her tummy. Over the past few days she remembered how to roll onto her back again. And today, she put it all together, multiple times:

She started in the middle of the blanket, facing the toys. I think she must have completed three full rolls to get to the fire place.

Now I have to make sure Kaylin keeps all of her small toys off of the floor. Luckily we won't be using the fireplace any time soon (I hope!), so I don't need to worry too much about that.

Sisters

Kaylin loves to hold Lauren. She loves being a big sister, and she loves that she has Lauren for a little sister.

This brings me to two conversations that happened within 10 minutes of each other.

Story 1:

Kaylin: Mommy, who gave me this purse?
Me: Aunt Kay.
Kaylin: Aunt Kay?
Me: Yes. Aunt Kay is Grammy's sister. Who is your sister?
Kaylin: (BIG smile) Lauren is my sister! (long thoughtful pause) Who is Aunt Carly's sister?
Me: Aunt Carly doesn't have a sister. She has two brothers.
Kaylin: But Aunt Carly NEEEEEEEDS a sister!

Story 2:

Our church has a magazine called Ensign. This month's issue has all of the talks from the General Conference held last month. On the cover there is a picture of our prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Thomas S. Monson, with his wife.
Kaylin: (Pointing at President Monson) This is Thomas S. Monson.
Me: Yup.
Kaylin: (Pointing at Sister Monson) And this is Cousin Monson?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. At least I thought it was funny :-).

Fashion Emergency

What would you do if you had a cute new outfit to wear and no matching hair bow?

Have your mommy make one, of course. (**Details on how I made the bow below.)

The shirt says, "I am berry sweet." I'd have to agree.

For lunch, we went to 5 Guys with Aunt Carly and Jack. Kaylin adores Jack, partly because he thinks she's hilarious. But what baby doesn't think a 3 year old is funny? Kaylin can get Lauren to laugh more than anyone else.

Yes. Kaylin is drinking ketchup. I love ketchup, but that is just a little too much. She had a nice ketchup mustache afterward.

**Korker bow details: After trying a couple of methods over the past few months (I used korker ribbon on the wand I made in December), the one I used today was the best. I simply wrapped 3/8" wide grograin ribbon, without overlapping, on a 1/4 inch dowel. I secured each end with a metal hair clip that I bent to make it stay on. You can use wooden clothes pins, but I don't have any. I also wrapped ribbon around the handle of two wooden spoons, but the handles are slightly larger than 1/4" so the loops aren't as tight. I placed the dowel and wooden spoons on a cookie sheet and baked them at 275 for 25 minutes.

After the ribbon cooled, I slipped it off the dowel. I cut the ribbon into 3" lengths. I heat sealed the end of each ribbon (held the end over a flame). For the bow pictured above I used 4 pieces of red ribbon and 3 pieces of white. I placed them in a row, alternating colors, and tied them together using a piece of elastic cording. I then hot glued the bow to a ribbon covered hair clip.

The clip was easy to make and I think it turned out really cute. I'll probably make more.

My girls

We were in Bellingham for Mother's Day. Before church I wanted to get a picture of me with my girls.

Here we have Kaylin's glare. But she's looking at the camera and Lauren is kind of smiling. That makes it the best shot we got.

Lauren is 5 months old

Lauren is now 5 months old! This past month she learned to roll over from her front to her back and then from her back to her front. Although she doesn't last on her stomach for more than 10 minutes, she consistently rolls onto her tummy when put down on her back. I think she likes that she can get to her toys more easily and see what's going on around her.

She enjoys chewing on her fingers.

I got her new highchair out this week. She loves it.

March For Babies

We've participated in the March For Babies with the Greens the past few years. This year we did the walk at Point Defiance in Tacoma. It was early and chilly, but it wasn't raining, so we were happy.

Kaylin and Carter walked and held hands most of the time. They're so cute.

NO... we didn't get to park that close. Those cars belong to the volunteers. Don't get me started on the parking. I'll just say it was NOT GOOD.

At the end there were free Twinkies. Kaylin ate about half of hers. I didn't mind... less sugar for her and 1 1/2 Twinkies for me.

Lauren kept warm in her hat made by Nana and fleece pajamas.

Afterward we went to lunch at The Rock in Renton. Yum! The pizza we ordered had ricotta cheese on it. I was a little unsure about it, but it was delicious.

They give the kids dough to play with.

Sunday

We were ready for church a few minutes early and Kaylin actually let me COMB her hair AND put in a headband. Shocking. I already had Lauren in her car seat, but I took her out so I could take pictures of my cute girls. Although Kaylin said, "Cheese!" for every picture I took, both girls refused to smile. Kaylin still has remnants of a scab on her nose from her unfortunate incident with the driveway earlier this week.

After church, Eric gave Lauren her first shoulder ride. I think she liked it, but you decide for yourself...
